Official Rules for the LLIA Ice Fishing Tournament


  1. The tournament is on Long Lake in Isanti - straight out the SW Landing. Perimeter is secured with caution tape.  Should inclement weather cause a cancellation, the event will not be rescheduled.

  2. Registration will start at 9:00 a.m. at Sunrise on Englund Shores, Long Lake. Each person will be allowed to fish one hole per ticket purchased – maximum of two holes per participant.  Only holes predrilled by the Long Lake Ice Fishing Tournament personnel will be allowed in the tournament.  Participants may NOT drill their own holes.

  3. Cash Prizes will be awarded in 5 categories:  The largest game fish $300, the 2nd largest game fish $100, the 3rd largest game fish $50, the first bullhead $50, and the smallest (weight) game fish $50.  The largest and smallest categories will be measured by weight.  No contestant will be eligible for more than one competition prize.  There is no age requirement on tournament participation.  However, children under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

  4. Only fish caught during the contest hours on the day of tournament will be eligible for prizes. Caught fish must be brought to the judge's stand immediately. The fish must be alive.  Dead or frozen fish are ineligible.  Judges have the right to verify that fish were legally caught.  The decision of the judge is final. Contestants are responsible for verification of the weight of the fish at the time of weigh in.  In the event of a tie, the first fish registered during the day of the contest wins.  (Ex. If three 20 lb. fish are the largest entered, the fish registered earliest will take first, the next earliest fish at 20 lb. will take second…)

  5. All fish must be caught and the contestants in route to the judges stand by 2:00 pm on the day of the tournament. The judge's decision will be final on acceptance and timing of fish caught.

  6. Contestants must fish in the area designated for the contest and will be required to have their tickets visible at all times.  Ticket checks as well as container inspections will be required.  No fish houses or portables are allowed in the designated tournament area.

  7. Contestants will be allowed to move to unoccupied holes in the contest area.  Contestants are allowed to bring as many poles as desired, but cannot use more than one line per hole at a time.  Only two lines in the water per person, according to the fishing rules and regulations of Minnesota.  Contestants must use holes provided.

  8. Entry fee for the tournament is $10 for the first ticket (or hole) and $10 for the second hole.  These tickets must be present to be eligible to win cash prizes.  Everyone is eligible to win cash prizes if a ticket is purchased.  Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

  9. Contestants are responsible for their own safety, actions, and property at all times.  Contestants and holes must be in plain view from all sides at all times.

  10. All laws of the State of Minnesota and the state fishing laws of Minnesota will be abided by.

  11. Contestants are required to park in the areas provided.

  12. No spears allowed.  Heaters, chairs, and bait pails are allowed. Depth finders are not allowed.  Ice chisels are recommended as holes are drilled early in the morning the day of the tournament.  No lines are allowed in the water before 11:00 am.

  13. There will be one judges table at the main trailer/tent of the tournament area.

  14. All fish caught will immediately be released back into the lake after registration.  No Exceptions.

  15. No bait or licenses will be sold on the lake.  The use of augers is not allowed.

  16. Failure to comply with any of the contest rules subjects the contestants to disqualification and removal from the competition site. The right to refuse or revoke a competition ticket to anyone is hereby reserved.

  17. We ask that everyone help our efforts to protect the lake.  Make sure any garbage, etc is removed from the lake when you leave.  No glass containers are allowed.  Garbage cans are available at the site.

  18. The LLIA or individuals volunteering with this event are NOT responsible for any unsafe ice conditions. All risks taken are solely that of the participants, guests, and families attending this event.
